We want Cricket to be accessible to all residents of the Polden Hills at a reasonable cost.
As we have learnt over the past two years the huge importance of physical activity for mental wellbeing in both adults and children and your contribution will safeguard cricket at our fantastic facility in Shapwick.
Shapwick and Polden Cricket Club are now over 150 years old, we are the Premier club in Mid Somerset and Best Village Club in Somerset.
We compete in the West of England Premier League against many larger towns at the height of amateur cricket. We offer cricket to senior players with 3 Saturday and a Sunday side, a ladies section and also have over 100 boys and girls spanning 5 different age groups from age 5 to 16.
The Club is run by volunteers and all the hard work brings many hours of entertainment to our juniors, seniors and spectators at our fantastic picturesque ground in Shapwick.
Shapwick and Polden Cricket Club is now the only cricket club in the Polden Hills and the Premier club in mid Somerset. Set in a rural community where there are limited playing facilities, we provide an excellent facility and opportunity for adults and children to participate in sport in a welcoming and safe environment.
We field three Saturday Men's XIs, a Sunday XI and have over 100 junior members. As well as having teams for both boys and girls up to the age of 19, we run the ECB "All Stars" programme providing children aged between 5 and 8 with their first experience of cricket.
Shapwick and Polden formed in 2014 following a merger between the Ashcott & Shapwick and Chilton Polden clubs, both of which had been in existence since the second half of the nineteenth century. Our philosophy is making cricket accessible to all and making affordable, this is thanks to our volunteers raising funds as well as many local businesses sponsoring us.
We are lucky the facility is owned outright by us and this ensures all the money we make is invested directly back into the club. The sustainability of our great club is built on user experience and participation to do this we need the best facilities we can offer. The Club has achieved Clubmark Status, the accreditation by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirming it to be a well-run and safe environment for both seniors and juniors. It is run by a volunteer management committee with all cricket activities, social events and much of the maintenance organised and undertaken by volunteers.
The Pavilion
The Pavilion @ Shapwick is ideal for functions, parties and workshops. Set in the heart of Central Somerset with beautiful views across the Somerset Levels to the distant Mendip Hills.
Built to a high specification, it boasts a large function room measuring more than 100 sq m and is an ideal venue for dinners/lunches, parties, and workshops. With a fully equipped kitchen and well-stocked bar, the Pavilion can comfortably seat 80 people for a dinner or lunch.
Up to 100 people can be seated for a meeting event and presentations can be shown on our 63 inch widescreen TV. Free carparking at the venue.
