Shapwick Ladies was formed in June 2021.
We currently play softball cricket and we are a team of varied ages (13+) and abilities with anyone welcome to join us.
In the 2022 season we started competing in the Women's softball division organised by the Somerset Cricket Foundation. For the last few seasons we have played in division 3 of the league, finishing mid table for both seasons. There have been a few changes to the division set up for 2024, one being that they are now differentiated by names instead of numbers, Shapwick will play in the ‘Gibson Division’.
Training
We train on a Tuesday evening 6:30pm-8pm at Shapwick Cricket Club, April through to August. We also have some indoor training sessions, prior to outdoor cricket starting, which are held at Dovecote school in Shapwick. This year (2024), these sessions will be held on a Wednesday evening 6:30pm-8pm. 6 sessions from roughly mid March (start and end date TBC).
Our Coach is Josh Luckins (Level 2 qualified, lots of personal cricketing experience and Shapwick mens XI team captain 2024 season) he plans and delivers all of our training sessions in a fun way whilst we are learning and developing in all areas of cricket- bowling, batting and fielding. He also attends, provides support and umpires at our matches.
Matches
Matches are played on Sunday afternoons.
We play around 8-10 matches each season and these are a mixture of home and away games. Each match requires a team of 8 players and we play a 16 over format.
We bat in pairs for 4 overs per pair and encourage all players to have a go at bowling.
The captain and the coach are in charge of team selection and this will mainly be based on availability and training attendance!
We’d like to be able to give everyone a chance to play in the matches.

Membership
Each player pays an individual membership amount for the season (2024 amount TBC) This covers all outdoor training sessions and match fees.
Indoor training sessions are charged at £5 per person, per session (over 18) £3 (Under 18) to cover the cost of hall hire etc.
Spond
The cricket club as a whole use an App called Spond for all cricket communication. Membership, Matches, Events, News etc. All Membership forms and payments will be processed through this app.
