Shapwick Sustainability group was set up as a response to a growing recognition of the threat posed by the climate emergency.

Our aim is to promote making Shapwick more sustainable, as a community we can have a greater impact than acting individually.

Shapwick has a history of embracing sustainable living. Resident Mike Beale was a pioneer, setting up a discussion group back in 2007 with some detailed analysis of Sustainable Energy for the village.

Sustainable Shapwick not just about using less resources, it is also about making the village more resilient in the face of a changing climate e.g. preparedness for extreme weather events

In addition the litter picks that occur each Spring and Autumn is organised by members of the group, (although please don't wait until the litter pick if you some some discarded items).

Want to Save on Your Heating Bill?

Somerset Council offers a thermal imaging camera hiring facility that allows communities to look at buildings and see where improvements could be made in insulation. We have applied for a camera, which we would have for three days. If you would be interested in having a ‘thermal image’ survey of your property, please email us at sustainable@shapwick.org. Assuming we are successful in our application, we will be in contact and let you know the dates we have the camera. If there is a high demand, surveys will be completed in order of email receipt.

Are you thinking of installing an alternative energy source?

For example solar or buying an electric or hybrid vehicle.

These are big financial decisions, and you may have a number of questions.

Several villagers have already installed and are using these renewal sources and would be happy to show you their installation and answer any questions you may have.

They may have insight into areas that you had not thought about.

Please complete the contact form below and we'll try and put you in touch with someone.
